This Library Note provides background reading in advance of the debate to be held on 13 June on: “the Government’s priorities to be pursued at the next meeting of the G8 in Northern Ireland on 17 and 18 June 2013”. The Note provides a brief summary of the history, role and membership of the G8. It then considers the three priorities Prime Minister David Cameron has publicly announced will be the UK’s main focus at the G8 meeting: advancing trade, improving tax compliance and promoting greater transparency.
